Ms. Cohen has been responsible for transforming a one-on-one Speech-Language Therapy practice in 1987 to a fully integrated, multidisciplinary therapeutic service in Atlanta, GA. A Speech-Language Pathologist for over 26 years, Ms. Cohen has published numerous research articles, conducted over 30 presentations and workshops, and appeared on 11 Alive local television for her successful Toddler Talk Program. In 2006, Ms. Cohen was invited to join the Society for Neuroscience, the world’s most prestigious professional organization representing scientists and physicians dedicated to understanding the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system.
In 1992, Ms. Cohen co-authored and published Toddler Talk, one of the first training guides for Speech-Language Pathologists that focused on a child-centered, indirect intervention approach. Known nationally for this program and other innovative techniques in early-language evaluation and treatment, Ms. Cohen also has developed numerous diagnostic models to help professionals and families understand the relationships of sound perception, auditory processing, and working memory as a basis for addressing language and reading difficulties in children and adults.
An active practitioner, Ms. Cohen’s interests include early language development and its impact on reading and school success as well as neuroscience and its application to disorders such as dyspraxia and sensory-based processing disorders. Given her interest in brain research programming, Ms. Cohen was one of the first private practitioners in the U.S. to offer Fast ForWord Programming designed to change brain plasticity in children and adolescents.
Having received the Scientific Learning 2000 Leadership Award for bringing computer-based programs and solutions to children, Ms. Cohen continues to forge the way in using brain-based technology and approaches to intervention. In 2006, she launched Memory Matters, A Posit-Science Brain Fitness Program, for adults with typical, age related memory decline, as part of the Adult Division of SPS.
Ms. Cohen, an invited speaker at the state and national level, has presented over 30 lectures and workshops designed to facilitate increased knowledge of speech-language development and how to best achieve the most efficient, effective therapeutic programming for those who have articulation, oral motor, auditory processing, working memory, reading, and/or other language-based communication difficulties.
The recipient of numerous awards from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Ms. Cohen is a current board member of Chrysalis Experiential Academy and past board member of the Learning Disabilities Association of Georgia, Cobb County Chapter. She holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia; is certified in Speech-Language Pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; certified by the International Association of Oro-Facial Myology; certified in Beckman Oral Motor Techniques; and licensed to practice in the state of Georgia.
